A Unique Mineral Sheds Light on Mars’ Past
August 2025 · Nature Communications · Bishop, Meusburger, Weitz et al.

I contributed to the discovery and characterization of a new mineral on Mars—ferric hydroxysulfate—which reveals previously unknown episodes of localized heating in regions such as Juventae Chasma and Aram Chaos. These findings refine our understanding of thermal and chemical environments on Mars and provide new insights into its habitability.

Evidence for an Active Carbon Cycle on Mars
March 2025 · Science Magazine · Tutolo et al.

As part of the Curiosity rover’s CheMin team, I contributed to analysis showing that ancient Mars hosted extensive carbonate deposits—hidden from orbit due to masking by sulfates. This discovery provides the strongest in-situ evidence yet for an active ancient carbon cycle on Mars, reshaping our understanding of its climate evolution.
